Terms and Conditions
Services Provided and Visas
Old Moshi Hostels agrees to organize a volunteer placement for you, which includes providing accommodation as well as two meals per day. We will provide you with all the necessary information about arriving to Tanzania, the hostel and the organization you will be working with. We will also assist you with any additional travel or bookings you wish to plan whilst you are in Tanzania.
Old Moshi agrees to issue a volunteer visa for you upon arrival, but please note volunteers must come with the necessary documents including a valid passport, a copy of the passport and six passport photos. It is your responsibility to purchase a tourist visa at the airport. If you get a volunteer visa instead, you will still be required to pay for a volunteer visa through Old Moshi Hostel since volunteer visas issued at the airport are not associated with our business and partner organizations and institutions.
Registration Fees and Refund Policy
The volunteer agrees to pay a non-refundable $200 deposit. Once the deposit is cleared with our bank, you will receive a confirmation of your placement. This deposit takes approximately twenty business days to process and must therefore be paid a minimum of one month prior to departure. A failure to make a deposit within the allotted time will result in the loss of your placement. The rest of the fees for food and accommodation are due when you arrive at the hostel. We do not charge additional fees to volunteer.
Travel and Insurance
Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your placement ends. It is your responsibility to arrange flights and confirm with Old Moshi how you plan to arrive at the hostel (i.e. whether you would like to arrange an airport pick-up with our taxi partner or arrive by another form of transportation from town).
We are unable to provide you with insurance protection whilst you are volunteering. It is your responsibility to purchase both travel and medical insurance during the entirety of your placement, although we recommend that your insurance cover the whole length of your stay to include additional travels.
You must provide Old Moshi Hostel with proof of insurance once these items have been purchased.
In addition, you are responsible for seeking appropriate medical advice before arriving which includes consultation with a doctor or nurse. We expect (although it is not a legal policy) that you bring all the necessary medical equipment with you including malaria tablets.
Complaints and Problems During Placement
If you are unsatisfied with your placement, please send complaints directly to the project leader. This gives him/her an opportunity to fix the problem. Should any issues or concerns not be amended, then please speak with management at Old Moshi Hostel.
If the volunteer is having problems with accommodation and/or food at the hostel, then please speak directly with management and not to other staff members. This will ensure that concerns are communicated clearly and addressed in a timely fashion.
We reserve the right to terminate a placement should you commit any of the following:
- The volunteer does not fulfil obligations required of the hostel and partnering organization or institution.
- The volunteer’s behaviour causes danger, distress or significant difficulties towards volunteers and/or staff members.
- The volunteer is discovered to have lied about work carried out during the placement resulting in unfavourable relations between Old Moshi Hostel and our partners.
- The volunteer is discovered to have taken illegal drugs and/or substances.
If Old Moshi decides to terminate a placement, the volunteer visa will be immediately cancelled and you will be given one week to find alternative accommodation. The hostel will not be responsible for any costs associated with flights, transportation or alternative accommodation.
Potential volunteers must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. You must also acknowledge that upon entering an agreement, you have completed your own personal investigation into Old Moshi Hostel, including our policies and services provided.
We reserve the right to change a placement in accordance with the needs of our partners. Volunteers must also be responsible for themselves when traveling outside of the hostel and working hours. We are not liable for anything that happens to you outside of these areas.
Under no circumstances are volunteers allowed to have direct negotiations with our partners or contractual agreements for employment during your placement. And any friends that are made during the placement are not allowed inside the hostel, however friends and family are welcome to stay as registered guests.
We are not liable for any lost or stolen items outside of the hostel and area of placement. It is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your own personal items. We are additionally not responsible for anything that is misplaced within the hostel that was not under the care of management or inside a locked drawer.
Please contact our management team if you have further questions.
